![]() Initially begun whilst teaching at Northwestern University in 1970, the writer continued to work on the novel after his return to Kenya, finally finishing the novel in Yalta as a guest of the Soviet Writers' Union. Petals of Blood was Ngugi's first novel written whilst not in full-time education, instead written over a five-year period. Education, schools, and the Mau Mau rebellion are also used to unite the characters, who share a common history with one another. Other themes include the challenges of capitalism, politics, and the effects of westernization. The novel largely deals with the scepticism of change after Kenya's independence from colonial rule, questioning to what extent free Kenya merely emulates, and subsequently perpetuates, the oppression found during its time as a colony. As the novel progresses, the characters deal with the repercussions of the Mau Mau rebellion as well as with a new, rapidly westernizing Kenya. In order to escape city life, each retreats to the small, pastoral village of Ilmorog. Set in Kenya just after independence, the story follows four characters – Munira, Abdulla, Wanja, and Karega – whose lives are intertwined due to the Mau Mau rebellion. They can come off as rude, but they aren't malicious. These are the natural leaders and the ones who take on the burdens of others, regardless of the toll it will take on them. They have the best and worst traits of both types, making them come off as strange and eccentric. They have all the strengths of being outgoing and hungry for knowledge, but they are also hesitant and unsure. This blood type is uncommon in Japan, which makes them stand out even more. They can be seen as weird, coming off as distant and hard to read. Type AB personalities are a combination of the previous two, taking on aspects of both. My Hero Academia's beloved homeroom teacher Shota Aizawa falls into this category. They can be outgoing but also blunt regardless of how others feel. Because of this, they are perceived a being irresponsible and reckless. They are also impulsive and unpredictable, dropping things to no longer hold their interests quickly. They are adaptable and think outside of the box. Type B blood types are creative, curious people who just want to learn, but they'll break the rules in doing so. Ami Mizuno (Sailor Mercury) from Sailor Moonis a perfect example of a Type A personality. However, this strength is a double-edged sword, as they try to not create conflict and stay quiet about their own opinions on things for fear of stirring the pot. Type A personalities are good mediators and act as peacekeepers. They are also the ones people go to for advice or to have someone understand both sides to an argument. They are the quiet ones who enjoy doing things for others, but easily get stressed out. Blood Type A is said to be extremely organized, neat, cleanly, shy, and reliable. ![]()
